Arcos Gardens attended Simone Thion de la Chaume Trophy at Chantaco

The 13th edition of the Simone Thion de la Chaume Trophy took place at Chantaco Golf course in Saint Jean de Luz, France, from the 6th until the 8th of April 2011.
Under the friendly smile of Simone Thion de la Chaume, wife of the legendary René Lacoste and pioneer of the French and European women golf, senior international players competed during 3 rounds of stroke play, a cut after 2 rounds qualifying the best 60 players.

Created in 1999 by Catherine Lacoste, in honour of her mother, this international senior open hasn’t stop tending towards the highest level while respecting the tradition of golf. In 10 years, the limit of index of the players has been divided by 2 (today the limit is 9,4), and the number of participants has been limited due to the increasing number of requests.
Before each edition, the players look forward to knowing the colour of the Lacoste tournament shirt: it sets the tone of the competition and is the subject of a large number of guesses from one year to the next.
The Trophy of the Tournament is entrusted for one year to the winner. Virginie Burrus, France, became the winner for the third time of the 13th edition at Chantaco Golf as she has won the last three editions (Palmares: 2009, 2010 and 2011).
This edition was even more exceptional as the happy winner got a special stay & play weekend package at Arcos Gardens. Congratulations Virginie!

GREEN JACKET TOURNAMENT 2011

The Green Jacket Tournament is organised at Arcos Gardens for members and members guests on the last day of the US Masters Tournament at Augusta National. The format is a bit unusual due to that the competitors are not only dependant to their own score they are also dependant to results from the US Masters tournament. An impressing score of 66 net and also a good player draw resulted in a comfortable win for Lubos Cerny. Congratulations Lubos and we hope to see you soon again at Arcos Gardens.

5 days was in the end needed to complete the 4 rounds of Arcos Gardens Q2 2010. Even though the rain continued on Tuesday it was possible to complete what was left of the 4th round. The last day there were quite a few changes in the top but what is most important in the end for the players is to finish top 23 and qualify for the final qualifying stage. 24th position as Arcos Gardens is the first reserve in the final qualifying and will probably get to play the tournament, Louis Moolman (RSA) took the 24th position after a play-off with Philip Archer (ENG) and Agustin Domingo (ESP).

new blog day 4.JPG

On the picture above: Jos Maria Zamora, Tournament Director (left) and Mike Stewart, Qualifying School Director (right)
The fourth day of the qualifying school at Arcos Gardens started as planned with tee-off from 09:10 in the morning. At 12:30 the sky suddenly opened up with a heavy down pour, the rain was so heavy so that the greens collected water and became unplayable. Play was suspended until further notice, unfortunately the amount of rain that fell was too much to be able finish the day, play will thereby continue tomorrow morning at 09:00.

CANAL+.jpg

Canal+ has in 2010 created a new Golf Tour for the subscribers of their channel. The Tour is played on various golf courses through Spain during 2010. The best golf courses are chosen for their competitions and all competitions are all very well organized. The tour has a team of referees, tournament organizers, TV crew that visit all tournaments, a small TV coverage is made from all tournaments and are later showed on the Canal+ Golf channel. The handicap level of the players is low which is partly due to the medal play format which is used.

Arcos Gardens was present in Madrid Golf 2009, one of the most important international golf exhibitions in Spain

Madrid Golf LR.jpg

Madrid Golf 2009 concludes with a reamrkable success of visitors and trade activity. The show grows to currently become one of the golf meeting points in Europe and the number of visitors increases compared to the 2008 venue. This success confirms the quality and the comprehemsive rage of exhibitors that attended the fair.
Madrid Golf 09 has become the reference for the golf industry in Spain and Europe, and therefore the "meeting point" for the golf sector. This explains how the fair counted on the presence of Gurus like Don Ross and Simon Holmes, as well as the Moon Masters School, attending all visitors' requests.

MINNA WINS THE INDIVIDUAL SENIOR LADIES INTERNATIONAL

FOTO%20TORNEO[1].jpg

The Finnish player, Minna Kaarnalahti spoiled the opportunity for Marta Estany to become the first Spanish player in eight years to hold the title, Spanish Senior Female Individual Champion. The Catalonian player, had a great recovery in the second round and had the opportunity of going all the way, but the Nordic player did not hand over the triumph.

Minna Kaarnalahti, who teed up in the tournament with the second best handicap of all 70 competitors, (1.4), she showed her quality in the second round, by shooting a round of 73 (4 shots better than her first round), which gives the total score of 150 shots, which turned to be enough to capture the win.

At the same time, Marta Estany was unfortunate during the first round, she spoiled her chances to bring the title back to Spain. Her 80 hits in the first day were forgotten thanks to the 72 shots she got in the second day, the best score collected during the two days of the competition.

Marta Estany were not able to beat Minna Kaarnalahti but she got the second position with 152 hits and thereby also the best Spanish player in tournament.

RESULTS:
1- Minna Kaarlahti (Fin) 150 (77 + 73)
2- Marta Estany (Spa) 152 (80 + 72)
3- Diane Williams (Can) 153 (75 + 78)

The price-giving was made by Mrs. Emma Villacieros, ex-president from the Spanish Golf Federation and Catherine Lacoste as Arcos Gardens representative.

THE BLONDE BUNKERS FACES OF ARCOS GARDENS

TRY 1.JPG

The blonde bunker faces of Arcos Gardens have arrived early this year.

This intentional effect is created to make a contrast between the bunker faces and the lush green over seeded fairways and roughs and we hope you like this as much as we do.

So how do we do it? Well the course as two different types of grass, the base grass is our summer grass and is called Bermuda 328. During the winter this grass goes dormant and turns golden. To prevent the entire course going golden we over seed the golf course during the winter with rye which is a dark green coloured cool season grass but we do not over seed the bunker faces. This year due to an unusual early cold snap which has seen us having several frosts the Bermuda has turned dormant much earlier.
During the spring the Bermuda grass wakes up again and this contrast disappears for another season.

We hope you enjoy our blonde bunkers faces the time you play!

DROME GOLF SOCIETY SPAIN TOUR 2007

Foto Drome Golf Society blog.jpg

Week 39 saw the Drome Golf Society arrive for a 2 day adventure. The Drome have been on tour to Costa del Sol since 2003, based in Port Duquesa for this year. The organiser had heard good reports about Arcos Gardens and he decided to finish off this years tour with a 2 day trip to Arcos.
The first day saw the 11 golfers playing off the yellow tees, 1st was Noel with 37, 2nd was Sean with 36(CB), 3rd was Riz with 36. That evening saw the group venture into the local village for the annual Feria (Fair) at 1 euro a beer it was a fantastic night. With the second round being played off the white tees and coupled with a late night the scores were noticeable lower. 1st was Lee with 35, 2nd was John with 33, 3rd was Paul with 32(CB). Noel also had 32, along with his 37 from the previous day; these 2 scores helped Noel become the Tour champion with a total of 185 over 6 rounds.
The decision to finish the tour at Arcos was in fact a stoke of genius. Some of the golfers that had played every year commented that this was the best venue they had played on.

We will be back in 2008.

Homes Overseas Awards PW LR.jpg

Homes Overseas Awards 2007:
BEST WORLDWIDE GOLF DEVELOPMENT - GOLD AWARD

The 2007 Homes Overseas Magazine Awards – the Oscars of international real estate - and the only global property awards where every short-listed entry around the world is visited by judges were announced in London this month.
Arcos Gardens has lived up to its billing as one of the world’s most exciting new communities as it has been named as the “Best Worldwide Golf Development - 2007” by winning the only ‘Gold’ awarded in this category.

The awards are particularly pleasing for the developers of Arcos Gardens, Grupo Novaterra, as they are recognition of the quality and standard of this unique resort in the untouched countryside of the Costa de la Luz. Situated close to the vibrant city of Jerez, Arcos Gardens provides luxury two bedroom townhouses and three to four bedroom villas carefully placed around 440 acres of olive groves and rolling Andalucian countryside.

CEO of Grupo Novaterra, Fernando Mora Figueroa, comments: “The land that Arcos Gardens is built on has been in my family for many years and from the start, our pursuit has been to develop excellent facilities surrounded by a world class golf course and the finest homes and service for our residents. We now have residents from over 10 countries and in its first year our golf course has been chosen as a venue for the European Tour qualifying.”

The Arcos Gardens European Challenge - Day 3

Day 3 of 3
13th October 2006

Friday the 13th saw the local "levante" wind blow making it a difficult day for all. The course designed with the prevailing wind in mind showed all its defences as not one player managed to go under par. The best round of the day came from Portugal's, Antonio Rosado, who showed fine control to finish with a level par 72. His score helped his country to retain first place however England managed to dig deep to force a tie. In the spirit of this event prizes where awarded to both teams and the result tied.
On lookers where very impressed with Portugal's Pedro Figueiredo, at only 15 years of age, he is certainly one to watch.
However, Oliver Fisher was the player of the week winning the individual by 3 clear shots. In his winners speech he thanked Arcos Gardens for holding this event adding that he really enjoyed the course.
We wish all the players good luck for the up coming Eisenhower Trophy in South Africa.

The Arcos Gardens European Challenge - Day 2

Day 2 of 3
12th October 2006

El Dia del Pilar, a national holiday here in Spain did not see the players of this interesting challenge match relaxing, as another perfect day for golf saw scores going low. Pedro Figueiredo of Portugal followed his 69 from yesterday with an easy looking 67 but the 17 year old St Andrews Links Trophy holder, Oliver Fisher moved into first place, carding a near perfect 64 with 8 birdies and no dropped shots. "This amateur star sure showed his class today" said one onlooker.
Oliver's score also aided his country, moving England up to joint first with Portugal.

The Arcos Gardens European Challenge - Day 1

grupo 1.jpg

A near perfect golfing day with little or no wind encouraged good scoring for the first day of the Arcos Gardens European Challenge. Although fast and true greens gave some defence and stopped a really low score being returned.
The story of the day was Pedro Figueiredo from Portugal who was 6 under after 11 holes but after a double bogey, bogey finish on the tough finishing holes returned a 69.
Portugal lead the team event with a one shot lead over Germany and Maximilan Kramer leads the individual after a very consistent round of 68.

We would like to thank everyone who visited us at the recent summer events, including the EnterCard Scandinavian Masters at Barsebäck Golf Club, Sweden, the Verve Clicquot Gold Cup at Cowdray Park, and the Cartier International at Guards Polo Club, Windsor, England.

The preparations for British Open has started for Norway’s ladies golf icon, Suzann Pettersen. She is heading to Europe for the best possible preparations.

Simon & Suzann lr.jpg

More closely described, Suzann is heading to the Spanish Countryside to charge her batteries and concentrate on her game. Ttogether with her coach, Simon Holmes, she will spend the next six days to focus on her game and make adjustments to her already skilful techniques.

It is no coincidence she has chosen Spain as her training ground! This is where her coach Simon Holmes is establishing his new European base and where she can find the very best quality of training facilities, put in place for amateurs and professionals. Arcos Gardens, has already established a working relationship with the Swedish Golf Federation. The Swedish Elite players will use the training facilities in the winter months and has a large villa at their disposal during their stays.

Landmark Spain is the company behind this magnificent and low density project. They have enough credentials to look back at which says enough to convince that this will be a first class Golf and Country Club. With courses like Mission Hills, Kiawah Island (Ryder Cup 1991), La Quinta (Florida), PGA West, Carmel Valley Ranch and Palm Beach Polo, Arcos Gardens will provide nothing but pure quality on all levels.

The course which has been finished for a few months already, opens to the public with an official opening in October of this year. Suzann is the first professional player to test the training facilities.
‘I need a place to travel to where I can concentrate about my game 100%. At Arcos Gardens I will be able to train all parts of my game and especially focus on my short game, which these training facilities can offer of the highest quality’ says Pettersen.

Arcos Gardens has developed training facilities which can easily be used by other coaches and their players. ‘We are opening up the possibility of coaches bringing their players and utilize these fantastic facilities. We see big advantages for juniors, amateurs and professionals with these training facilities and we know that it is especially important for the Scandinavian countries to have facilities like these in reach during the winter season’ says Holmes.

Both British tour operators have already offered the golf courses and hotels in Cadiz Province in their catalogues as well as Moinho Tour, which gave a clear commitment to the provincial golf offer after taking part in Cadiz Golf Cup 2005 Trophy. They promised to include this offer in the catalogues in USA, presenting golf courses in Cadiz Province as a top quality resource with an exceptional climate.
Apart from tour operators and tourist agents, several journalists specialized from magazines like Progolf (Finland), Golfers Magazine and Equipe Golfkrant (Holland) took part in this competition.

Hole in One

Hole in one LR.jpg

Hole number 7, par 4, 266m from the yellow tees.

Fernando Garcia Delgado on 23rd April hit his nike nº4 ball with his Taylor Made driver from the tee. It was a good strike by the 11.6 handicapper landing just short of the green. It bounced and ran and plop, straight into the hole. The first hole in one at Arcos Gardens and an even more amazing feat considering the hole is a par 4.

The Swedish Golf Federation play their first round at Arcos Gardens Golf Club & Country Estate

To celebrate having nine holes now ready for play, Director of Golf, Ashley Northridge recently welcomed Board Members and Associates of the Swedish Golf Federation to Arcos Gardens Golf Club & Country Estate. After welcome drinks and snacks in the tapas lounge, the visitors were given a brief tour of the newly renovated Hotel Cortijo Faín and temporary clubhouse area, and then introduced to some of the main features of the golf course and training facilities, including plans for an extensive junior golf programme.

After a four course lunch, the Swedish visitors were keen to play their much anticipated first round at Arcos Gardens, which will soon become the official base for their Winter training programme. With clear blue skies, most players elected to walk the course, which will open to the public later this year. Playing off the white tees, the back nine proved a difficult challenge and the greens too quick for some, but not for Per Adler and his team, who came in with the highest combined Stableford score to win some much prized Arcos Gardens golf shirts!
