The 13th edition of the Simone Thion de la Chaume Trophy took place at Chantaco Golf course in Saint Jean de Luz, France, from the 6th until the 8th of April 2011.
Under the friendly smile of Simone Thion de la Chaume, wife of the legendary René Lacoste and pioneer of the French and European women golf, senior international players competed during 3 rounds of stroke play, a cut after 2 rounds qualifying the best 60 players.

Created in 1999 by Catherine Lacoste, in honour of her mother, this international senior open hasn’t stop tending towards the highest level while respecting the tradition of golf. In 10 years, the limit of index of the players has been divided by 2 (today the limit is 9,4), and the number of participants has been limited due to the increasing number of requests.
Before each edition, the players look forward to knowing the colour of the Lacoste tournament shirt: it sets the tone of the competition and is the subject of a large number of guesses from one year to the next.
The Trophy of the Tournament is entrusted for one year to the winner. Virginie Burrus, France, became the winner for the third time of the 13th edition at Chantaco Golf as she has won the last three editions (Palmares: 2009, 2010 and 2011).
This edition was even more exceptional as the happy winner got a special stay & play weekend package at Arcos Gardens. Congratulations Virginie!

Starting in July 2011, Arcos Gardens will be offering children between the ages of 7 and 13 years old, the chance to participate in a summer camp where they can take adventage of the resort's first class personnel and facilities.

The Formula one circus arrives in Jerez. Our readers will be glad to hear that Jerez will once again be hosting a pre-season testing session on the weekend of 10th to the 13th February 2011 at the Circuito de Jerez. Although many are counting down to the season-opening Bahrain GP in March, there's plenty going on in the world of F1 before we hit the desert.

McLaren's new car will be launched on 4th February in Berlin ahead of a track debut in the second pre-season test at Jerez. McLaren has revealed Lewis Hamilton will be at the wheel of their 2011 car when it makes its track debut at Jerez on February 10. Hamilton will sample the MP4-26 on the first day of the test before handing the car over to team mate Jenson Button for the second day of running at the Spanish circuit.
Spain is probably the warmest European country, so it makes sense testing in Jerez Race Track. Plus Spain is fun!

As usual the testing sessions are open to the public and are a great opportunity to grab a slice of F1 action at a fraction of the normal cost. Entrance is 10 euros for general entrance or 20 euros for a VIP ticket which gives you access to the stand by the pits. Children between the age of 3 and 14 years pay half price.

Arcos Gardens presented an exhibition of paintings by Spanish artist Kim Soler, emtitled "Entre Luces y Sombras". The exhibition was held from 1st October 2010 to 3rd October 2010. We had a wonderful evening viewing Kim�s paintings and many admirers visited our Cortijo Fain and appreciated the artist works.
Kim Soler presented a selection of his work and the exhibition featured 50 paintings from his collection, revealing his indisputable savoir faire, his skill and his profound knowledge when it comes to creating new colours.

We have had such a great feedback from all the visitors to the exhibition and they very much enjoyed the event.

Arcos Gardens were pesent in one of the most important golf events in the European Tour celebrated at Bro Hof Slott Golf Course in Sweden from July 22nd to the 25th.
Richard Johnson of Sweden won the Scandinavian Masters on Sunday, making a 30-foot birdie putt at the last hole to shoot a 1-under 71 and finish a stroke clear of Rafa Echenique of Argentina. Johnson who shared the overnight lead with South Korea's K.J. Choi, finished with a total of 11-under 277 at Stockolm's Bro Hof Slott

British Open champion Louis Oosthuizen (73) was tied for fourth place with Brett Rumford of Australia (69) and New Zealand's Mark Brown (71). Choi had dropped out of contention after shooting two double bogeys in a 78.
Echenique replaced Johnson as leader after making birdies at the 12th and 13th holes. The two were tied again at the 18th before Johnson holed his 30-foot put to win his second European Tour title. Echenique was very disappointed because he played really well, but that's golf.
Arcos Gardens had the opportinuty to meet many visitors at our stand as Swedish golfers know very well that the Swedish Golf Federation have chosen our golf course as the official Winter Training Facility. As a result of our participation, we had many bookings for the next season. At the end of the golf event , we made a draw to win a Callaway golf bag. The winner's name will be published in the next Newsletter.

Madrid Golf 2009 concludes with a reamrkable success of visitors and trade activity. The show grows to currently become one of the golf meeting points in Europe and the number of visitors increases compared to the 2008 venue. This success confirms the quality and the comprehemsive rage of exhibitors that attended the fair.
Madrid Golf 09 has become the reference for the golf industry in Spain and Europe, and therefore the "meeting point" for the golf sector. The 19th of December the Arcos Gardens ´team enjoyed one more year of the Christmas Staff Party celebrated in Maintenance warehouse.

The players of the Staff Tournament 2008 at Arcos Gardens were the first ones beginning the event. At 8:00 they were ready for the tee-off.

The Barbecue started at 14:00 followed by a party where the team of Arcos Gardens were eating, drinking, singing and dancing until 19:00.

The karaoke, the gifts ´draw, the Christmas presents and the Director´s speech, Ashley Northridge, were some of the most intensive moments experienced in the event.

An honourable mention deserve the winners of the competition: Ismael Jaen, Golf Department (18 holes competition) and Breogán Peña, Golf Maintenance (9 holes competition).

To prevent the entire course going golden we over seed the golf course during the winter with rye which is a dark green coloured cool season grass but we do not over seed the bunker faces. This year due to an unusual early cold snap which has seen us having several frosts the Bermuda has turned dormant much earlier.
During the spring the Bermuda grass wakes up again and this contrast disappears for another season.

Mr. & Mrs. Gassmann are the first German residents in our wonderful Arcos Gardens residential community. The new owners of the townhouse O3 wanted to premiere the recent delivery of keys to their home after signing the title deed. The small one of the family no doubt wanted to be part of the moment!!

Catherine Lacoste, one of our honorary members of Arcos Gardens and her husband Angel Gonzalez, as they celebrated being the owners of their new townhouse in the residential community Fairway Gardens. Catherine, daughter of René Lacoste and current shareholder of Lacoste S.A., one of the most important French businesses of its kind, is passionate about golf and was winner of the US Open in 1967.

The house situated near the 10th hole will sleep 16 people and will be used by the Federation to house their elite teams as they practice here through the winter months.

Breaking ground for the first villa to be constructed at Arcos Gardens was done in style with the traditional cava being poured into the first construction area.

Christine & Arnold Allen were celebrating today the starting of work on their plot on the exclusive villa development Grazalema at Arcos Gardens Golf Club and Country Estate. The Golf Director, head of Construction and Head of Marketing all took advantage of the early morning Cava to help the Allens properly christen their first proper steps toward living at Arcos Gardens. Their new home will be ready 18 months from now and we cannot wait for their opening party...!

We are now into the 6th month of construction of the Fairway Gardens development. The roof and the outer brick skin to the show flat has been built. We are working towards the schedule of opening the show flat in the middle of October. The townhouse will be fully furnished by one of our choice interior designers and all fittings and options will be visible for all the clients to see

At present we are working to the construction programme and barring any hiccups the development will be finished on time. Roofing to five blocks is now complete and we are now heavily concentrating on the brickwork. The works are inspected daily by the construction team and the quality of workmanship is being kept to a maximum.

Construction on the Swedish Federation’s villa was started on the 15th of May and already the foundations have been poured.
The urbanisation works are still in progress and are on schedule for the first phase to be completed by the end of the year. Works have commenced on t he water deposit and the main water supply and will be operational by October this year.

In September/October we will start construction on the Villas in Grazalema and clients could be living in their luxury houses by December 2008.

The first Arcos Gardens’ clients to sign their private contract for their townhouse in Fairway Gardens celebrated last week with an invitation to drink champagne in the member’s room in the Cortijo. Mike and Jacklyn Olley had only driven passed the golf club and country estate in January and decided to pay the sales team a visit the same day. They felt that the low density construction and excellent land planning was totally unique to other projects they had heard about, and the surrounding countryside reminded them of their Lake District homeland. We congratulate Mike and Jacklyn on their purchase and look forward to welcoming them onto the community next May.

On Thursday, 9th February 2006, the first cement was poured on what will be the Show Flat for the townhouses known as “Fairway Gardens”. The work is being carried out in accordance with the residential project, with the aim of creating comfortable homes with a complete range of services. Quality of life, practicality and design are the main concepts, as well as low density development, with only 80 homes. Fairway Gardens turns from a plan to reality.

Carlos Guerrero Pérez is a young, bright and enthusiastic chef, who will play a key role in the development of the gastronomy at Hotel Cortijo Faín. Most recently he has been based at the Hotel Duque de Medinaceli in Puerto de Santa María, before which he was a chef at the well known “Tragabuches” in Ronda, which has a Michelin Star. His previous and varied experiences, which include a spell abroad in French Brittany, allow him to feel comfortable catering for both big events, such as weddings, promotions, and banquets, as well as providing a pleasurable dining experience to individual tables of guests.

The restaurant menu will be tailored to suit all tastes, and offer a delicious selection of traditional Andalucian cuisine, with the choice of dishes regularly changing depending on the season, to make the most of the fresh and mostly organic raw vegetables and fruits which are available locally. He will also prepare a suitable menu of golfers’ fare and traditional tapas to serve in the casual clubhouse area, which will incorporate dishes from the coast and countryside of Cádiz, as well as popular light meals.

Cortijo Hotel Faín will initially also serve as temporary clubhouse and proshop for the Arcos Gardens Golf Course, will nclude a restaurant, tapas lounge, reception area and members’ salon.

The golf course itself is the most advanced part of the project, which plans to open at the beginning of 2006; Works on the first phase of housing plan to break ground in November, with 80 units of 135m2 each, alongside the hotel area.

This project is worthy of respect both from an environmental and a development point of view, since water from the municipal purification plant will be used to irrigate the golf course, despite the fact that the project has permission from the CHG to use local well water. In fact, on site you can already see that water is being collected in the large man-made lake, which is recycled and used for irrigation.
With regard to housing, the project will provide very low density housing compared to other golf courses, as only 400 homes are planned to be built over various phases.

Construction works have required the removal of dozens of olive trees, which the promoter has re-planted elsewhere. It is worthy of mention that Arcos Gardens has a “special charm”, not only for a fabulous golfing experience in a rural area, but also for the surrounding landscape, and good communications with the rest of the Province and Andalucia.

Another important environmental issue is the great value which has been paid to the landscape surrounding the finca, which enjoys fantastic panoramic views of the town of Arcos. With regard to infrastructure, renovation works continue on the provisional clubhouse, where the Boutique Hotel Faín will also be housed. Furthermore, the future sales office is under construction within the resort.
The Mayoress, Josefa Caro, and the Head of Town Planning, visited the site on Tuesday, accompanied by the promotor, Fernando Mora Figueroa. They all agreed that the golf course will be a quality tourist attraction which will help to promote the town, and in turn, the economy. Their objectives were also united: to make Arcos an international tourist destination “of quality”.
Macias said he looked forward to the golf course becoming a “reference for quality” both in Andalucia and at international level. The Mayoress stated that Arcos Gardens is “a sign of the quality that the government has had in mind since conception of the project”, and that all parties involved in the project “are aiming towards the same end”.

Between the several projects under construction within the Arcos Gardens development, one of the most advanced is the future sales office, which plans to open around mid January.
