“It will be difficult for visitors not to fall in love with Hotel Cortijo Faín”

Well known and respected in the hotel business, Willi Dietz brings to the project a wealth of experience, which he has gained from working at some of the most prestigious five star hotels, both in Spain and internationally. No stranger to the jet set, in the late 70’s he directed the then highly fashionable Las Brisas Hotel in Acapulco, which was listed in the Top Ten Hotels in the World at that time. This was followed by seven years at the Marbella Club & Puente Romano on Marbella’s Golden Mile in the heydays of the early 80’s, from where he later moved to set up the Jardín Tropical Hotel, which still ranks amongst the best in Tenerife. The next seven years took him to the five star hotels of Ciragan Palace Hotel in Istanbul, and the Corvinus Grand Hotel Kempinski in Budapest. He eventually returned to Spain in 1997 to direct the team at the beachside Kempinski Hotel in Estepona in preparation for its opening in 1999.

“I have been fortunate to work at some fabulous hotels in the past, but I find the Cortijo Faín project the most interesting challenge for many reasons. I am completely drawn in by the history and uniqueness of its architecture and destiny. At the beginning of our project, the boutique hotel will receive guests and golfers alike, before the community expands with the addition of a beautiful clubhouse and 50 hotel townhouses. Hotel Cortijo Faín will always be the heart of the Arcos Gardens development, and guests will be charmed from their very first step through the enormous antique doors into the cobbled courtyard. The Cortijo has been beautifully renovated respecting many original features, yet introducing modern comforts. It will be difficult for visitors not to fall in love with this hotel.”

“Arcos is Light, Arcos is Golf” the new slogan of Arcos goes to Fitur

Arcos de la Frontera had their own stand at the Feria Internacional del Turismo (Fitur) in Madrid, to promote the town’s tourist attractions.
The presence of Arcos at Fitur was made possible thanks to the financial backing of Landmark Spain, whose golf course development Arcos Gardens Golf Club & Country Estate is one of great interest to international tourists. The mayoress of Arcos and Sales Director of Arcos Gardens, Paul Jessup, featured in several publicity presentations during this event. The Arcos booth distributed comprehensive informacion about the town with the idea of transmitting a slogan, into a true concept: Arcos is Light, Arcos is Golf, highlighting the intrinsic luminosity of the countryside and the golf course itself as their main attraction to quality tourism.

During the Fair, a video was shown of Arcos, recorded by Canal Andalucía Turismo, including photos of the main historical monuments of the town, tourist attractions, such as gastronomy, culture & sport – including the golf course – in order to introduce some of the enchanting characteristics of this town to visitors of Fitur, in visual form.

Traditional Andalucian Cuisine with an International Twist

Carlos Guerrero Pérez is a young, bright and enthusiastic chef, who will play a key role in the development of the gastronomy at Hotel Cortijo Faín. Most recently he has been based at the Hotel Duque de Medinaceli in Puerto de Santa María, before which he was a chef at the well known “Tragabuches” in Ronda, which has a Michelin Star. His previous and varied experiences, which include a spell abroad in French Brittany, allow him to feel comfortable catering for both big events, such as weddings, promotions, and banquets, as well as providing a pleasurable dining experience to individual tables of guests.

The restaurant menu will be tailored to suit all tastes, and offer a delicious selection of traditional Andalucian cuisine, with the choice of dishes regularly changing depending on the season, to make the most of the fresh and mostly organic raw vegetables and fruits which are available locally. He will also prepare a suitable menu of golfers’ fare and traditional tapas to serve in the casual clubhouse area, which will incorporate dishes from the coast and countryside of Cádiz, as well as popular light meals.

Arcos de la Frontera becomes twinned with the Italian town of Anticoli Corrado

A small Italian town near Rome now plays a role in the history of Arcos. Anticoli Corrado, with a population of just 1,000, has formed an official relationship with Arcos for various reasons: both towns share a mutual philosophy of cultural preservation; because the Spanish poet from the early twentieth century literary era known as “la Generación del 27” Rafael Alberti, who was born in nearby Puerto de Santa María, lived in Anticoli for most of his life, and because of pure fate.

During their busy itinerary, the Italian convention was shown around by representatives of the Arcos Town Hall, which included visits to the main historical buildings of Arcos, and an introduction to local culture and customs. They left enchanted with the history, energy and diversity of Arcos.
The Italian group enjoyed a visit to Arcos Gardens on the Saturday, during which they enjoyed a brief tour of the golf course, and also watched the assistant golf teaching professional tee off from the 16th. They left delighted with the hospitality offered to them, and impressed by the golf course development, as well as surprised by the beauty of the surrounding areas.

Renovation of Hotel Cortijo Faín approaches completion

The beautiful Cortijo Hotel Faín is preparing to open to the public in April 2006, and will shortly begin to receive specially invited guests to sample her hospitality. Having undertaken meticulous renovation works over the last six months, the results are simply stunning. The antique cobbled courtyard remains, as do many other original features, some of which are over 200 years old.

All amenities have been updated to provide modern comforts within antique surroundings and apart from a kitchen extension, there have been no major design changes. Interior decoration has been orchestrated by Jaime Parlade, famous for his simple, elegant lines and luxury country fabrics and colours, all very much in keeping with the overall charm and history of this special place.

Temporary Arcos Gardens Club House & Proshop

Cortijo Hotel Faín will initially also serve as temporary clubhouse and proshop for the Arcos Gardens Golf Course, will nclude a restaurant, tapas lounge, reception area and members’ salon.

A Successful Three King’s Day

Last Thursday thousands of children of Arcos turned out to enjoy the traditional and much anticipated Three Kings Day celebrations, which seem to grow every year with more floats, more children and more sweeties, but with the same magic and excitement as always.

Their Majesties, the Three Kings of the East paraded through the streets of Arcos, watched eagerly by the children, delivering 10.000 kilos of sweets and 8.000 of soft toys. The parade started at five o’clock and this year the floats were illuminated for the first time, so that they could be seen even in the darkest areas of the route.
Twelve floats participated in the parade, mostly inspired by the latest children’s movies and popular cartoon characters, and the Three Kings rode in open-top vehicles.
King Melchor was represented by Fernando Mora Figueroa, President of Landmark Spain, the developers of Arcos Gardens Golf Club & Country Estate.
